First Ondemand, Authentisec™ and the Oracle Pervasive Computing Programme

First Ondemand's Authentisec™ solution is ideally suited to work within the pervasive computing arena. Authentisec's technical architecture is designed around a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach and is built on Oracle Fusion Middleware and 10g database server.

Logically Authentisec ™ sits within Oracle Application Server Solutions as an enabling technology and can be interfaced directly with a customer's RFID sensor edge processes. Alternatively it can reside in their Security applications and integrated into the sensor services from there.

Authentisec can primarily be used in used with sensor edge services for two purposes:

  1. To provide an additional security mechanism through the creation of a unique secure identity for encoding on to a tag.
  2. To create an additional resource whereby additional information or data can be attached as part of that unique identity and accessed by Authentisec authentication pathway.

First Ondemand are proud to have been selected to be part of the NASA's HAZMAT programme where Authentisec will be used to provide a new security layer for their tag identities and other related processes. Using Oracle's sensor edge server technology, the HAZMAT programme has been developed in conjunction with a number of other leading technology companies in this sector.

Authentisec can be used to create unique identifiers for a range of sensor edge services and solutions. When within the EPC Global framework where supply chain visibility is pre-requisite, it can be used as an "intelligent" serial number bringing many advantages including greater security at item level. Also the benefit of Authentisec''s unique VBT structure delivers the ability for the user to assign greater data functionality such additional embedded data.

The VBT allows other authentication pathways to be created for use by authorised parties, whereby verification and/or redemption of the item's identity can be can used as part of the item lifecycle or its tracking through a supply chain.

For closed loop solutions, where the identity of an item needs a non-repudiable identity to be generated and secured by cryptographic methods, it can form an integral part of a wider solution whether in the supply chain or for example in an anti-counterfeiting or brand protection scenario. Authentisec's unique identities can also be encoded on to other Data Carriers such as 2D barcodes like the Data Matrix or PDF 417. This gives further flexibility especially where additional identities can be printed onto tag labels.
